Charity for Underheated Residents and Energy by Dwelling Doctors

Supporting people living in cold and underheated homes.

Supporting those in need

CUREDD is a charity founded by the team behind Dwelling Doctors to support people living in cold and underheated homes. Through their work resolving damp, mould and poor air quality across the UK, the Dwelling Doctors team saw first hand that many households were unable to afford the heating needed to keep their homes safe. This financial barrier is one of the leading causes of recurring mould, ongoing health risks and avoidable property issues.

CUREDD was created to close this gap by providing direct and practical help with energy costs and by working closely with housing providers, contractors and organisations that support vulnerable residents.

Solving moisture and heating issues

Ventilation and insulation alone cannot keep a home healthy if the resident cannot afford to heat it. Cold homes allow damp and mould to return even after improvements have been made which places families at risk and contributes to ongoing health problems.

CUREDD exists to bridge the gap between property improvements and the financial realities many households face. We help ensure that heating is not the missing piece in creating safe and healthy homes.

What CUREDD does

CUREDD is a registered charity that provides direct and practical support to households experiencing fuel poverty. Our work focuses on three key areas of support which help residents maintain safe and adequate heating.

Emergency top ups for prepayment meters

Many vulnerable households use prepayment meters and can unexpectedly run out of credit which leaves them without heating or hot water. We provide emergency top ups so they are not left in unsafe conditions.

Crisis heating provision

In situations where heating cannot be used due to lack of funds, we offer crisis heating support to keep households warm and reduce immediate risk.

Advice to reduce energy debt

We help residents understand their energy bills, navigate supplier support options and reduce energy related debt. This guidance supports long term stability and helps households manage future costs more confidently.

These interventions help protect resident wellbeing and reduce the likelihood of recurring mould caused by under heating.

Supporting residents through education and guidance

CUREDD supports households not only with financial help, but with practical education to help residents use their homes safely and efficiently. Many residents affected by fuel poverty are unsure how to:

  • Use heating systems efficiently
  • Balance ventilation and heat
  • Avoid common behaviours that increase condensation and mould

CUREDD provides clear, accessible guidance to residents, including:

  • Practical advice on safe and affordable heating use
  • Simple explanations of ventilation and moisture control
  • Support to understand energy usage without increasing anxiety or blame

This education helps residents protect their health, reduces the likelihood of recurring damp and mould, and supports housing providers in achieving more sustainable outcomes.

Why CUREDD is different

CUREDD is not a generic fuel poverty charity. It was created to address the specific challenges faced in the housing sector, where cold homes, damp and mould intersect with affordability and health.

Born from frontline housing work

CUREDD was created by practitioners working daily in homes affected by damp, mould and poor air quality. Our approach is shaped by real-world experience, not theory.

Integrated with property-based solutions

We understand how heating, ventilation, insulation and resident behaviour interact. Our support complements property improvements rather than operating in isolation.

Focused on prevention, not just crisis

While we provide emergency and crisis support, our aim is to reduce repeat issues by addressing the underlying causes of underheated homes.

Designed specifically for social housing

Our interventions align with housing standards, compliance requirements and the practical realities faced by landlords, contractors and residents.

Direct, practical and measurable impact

Support is targeted, outcomes are recorded, and impact can be clearly evidenced for social value, ESG and audit purposes.

Housing providers and landlords

Fuel poverty is often the underlying factor in repeat mould or damp issues. Even well maintained homes with good ventilation can struggle if the resident cannot afford to heat the property. Housing providers can partner with CUREDD to support households experiencing fuel poverty, reduce preventable risks and improve long term outcomes for both residents and properties.

CUREDD accepts referrals from housing providers and can work with you to manage cases sensitively and efficiently.

Contractors, installers and suppliers

CUREDD offers contractors and suppliers operating in the housing sector a simple and credible way to strengthen existing social value commitments. By supporting CUREDD, organisations can:

  • Directly support the same residents and communities they already work with
  • Address fuel poverty as a root cause of damp, mould and repeat works
  • Deliver social value that is directly relevant to housing, health and compliance

Unlike generic community initiatives, CUREDD’s work:

  • Aligns directly with damp, mould and housing standards
  • Supports residents affected by the works contractors deliver every day
  • Helps reduce repeat call-backs caused by underheated homes

We provide:

  • Clear social value reporting
  • Evidence suitable for tenders, frameworks and ESG submissions
  • Transparent impact data linked to real households and outcomes

This makes CUREDD an ideal partner for organisations seeking meaningful, sector-specific social value delivery rather than generic or disconnected initiatives.

Donations and corporate sponsors

CUREDD relies on donations and sponsorship to fund emergency top ups, crisis heating and essential one to one guidance for households facing fuel poverty. Companies, suppliers, developers and organisations can sponsor CUREDD as part of their social responsibility and community investment commitments.

In return sponsors receive recognition, impact reporting and the ability to demonstrate tangible social value to clients and stakeholders. Donations of any size play a direct role in helping families stay warm and safe in their homes.

Our partners

CUREDD works closely with Dwelling Doctors, a specialist organisation that helps prevent and resolve damp, mould and poor air quality in homes. Dwelling Doctors provides professional mould remediation, ventilation assessments, property investigations and long term solutions that reduce the risk of mould returning.

Their work supports healthier homes and complements the financial support CUREDD provides. Housing providers or organisations looking for property based remedies and assessments can find trusted expertise through Dwelling Doctors.

While CUREDD works closely with Dwelling Doctors, it operates independently with its own charitable purpose and governance, ensuring resident support remains the sole priority.

Our aim is simple: fewer cold homes, healthier residents, and fewer repeat damp and mould cases.
